Bienvenüe à Paris

The 6th Metro Line, known as “Le Metro Aérien”, was opened in 1909 to complete the South Ring proposed by Fulgance Bienvenüe, the father of the Paris Underground system. Note that Bienvenüe means “welcome”, a Parisian trait that cannot remain unnoticed by visitors.

Here the train crosses the river Seine at Bir-Hakeim, in front of the Australian Embassy. This is the bridge where hundreds of Chinese couples were coming every day to make photos to adorn their wedding ceremonies, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, before the Chinese government decided to crack down on extravagant wedding costs.
